Violin, Viola, Guitar

For over 20 years Caroline Vain has studied the violin as her main instrument. Growing up classically trained, Caroline was a member of several orchestras including the New Jersey Youth Symphony and New Jersey Regional Orchestra. Upon moving to London, UK, while still in high school, Caroline developed an interest in folk music and became a member of the first cohort of the English National Youth Folk Ensemble.
Caroline later attended the London College of Music where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Performance. In her time at university, Caroline extended her knowledge of the violin through studying pop, jazz, and folk music.
Now based in Richmond, VA, Caroline divides her time between teaching violin and performing with her own band, as well as recording and playing live with bands around town such as Deau Eyes and Mackenzie Roark.
Caroline’s method of teaching involves building a strong technical foundation by way of classical exercises, as well as learning to play by ear and developing improvisational skills to encourage student’s creativity to shine.
